Volvo Ocean Race - Leg 7 - Auckland to Itajaí - How to follow the start of the race to Brazil

Auckland 17 March, 2018
It's been dubbed a return to the heritage of the Volvo Ocean Race - a true Southern Ocean classic.
Leg 7, from Auckland, New Zealand to Itajaí, Brazil, is the longest of the race at 7,600 nautical miles. It's also the most valuable; a double-points scoring leg with an additional bonus point available for the first boat to round the iconic Cape Horn.
"It's the leg that from a distance you most look forward to," said Chris Nicholson, the watch captain on Leg 6 winner team AkzoNobel and a Southern Ocean veteran.
"And then as the day rapidly approaches, you start to remember how truly nasty it can be. It is an amazing leg in one of the most remote parts of the planet."

========
The teams will take on the challenge of this Southern Ocean leg without the ability to 'hide' from the opposition.
Stealth Mode, whereby teams could elect to have their positions concealed from the rest of the fleet for three consecutive position reports has been dropped following the skippers' briefing on Friday.
A concern was raised that Stealth Mode was primarily being used at the end of legs, when fans most wanted to see the positions and follow the action.
When it was recommended to increase the limit on using Stealth Mode from 200 to 500 miles from the finish, the teams indicated they would prefer not to use it at all, and it has now been eliminated as an option via the Sailing Instructions.
