Fabrice Amedeo will be taking the Italian skipper, Giancarlo Pedote with him for the double-handed transatlantic race starting on 5th November from Le Havre. The two sailors know each other well, having raced against each other in the Class40 circuit and hope to do well against other boats from the same generation as Newrest - Brioche Pasquier in the Transat Jacques Vabre.
For several weeks, Fabrice Amedeo has been back out training from La Trinité-sur-Mer alongside the Italian skipper, Giancarlo Pedote.

Rivals on their class40s in recent years, they both have a lot of respect for each other, as Fabrice Amedeo explains: “I’m pleased to be able to take part in this new adventure with Giancarlo. For several years we were up against each other on our Class40s. Giancarlo is a very good racer and should bring me a lot of know-how about trimming the sails. I shall be able to offer him my experience of IMOCA sailing, as he will be discovering the boat. Having an Italian co-skipper is also a way for me to give my campaign an international dimension. Italy is a strategic market for many of my partners. It’s also a nod to my distant roots in Italy, a country I love.”

As for Giancarlo Pedote, he shares this enthusiasm and hopes to take part in the 2020 Vendée Globe: “I get on well with Fabrice, as we saw when we sailed together for the first time in La Trinité-sur-Mer,” says the winner of the last Transat Jacques Vabre in the Multi50s, before adding: “Fabrice has a very unique background in sailing and it is very interesting. He managed to bring together his two passions for sailing and writing. Fabrice has named his ocean challenge, “Reporters out at sea,” a name which stresses that ocean racing is a top class sport, but at the same time an adventure, a voyage which offers an editorial dimension, which enables the public to dream.”
